Church of Saint Anne

Descrizione

Next to the Cathedral is the Church of Sant’Anna. Some accounts indicate that the Church of S. Rocco (as it was originally called) was an oratory where some faithful, possibly associated in a confraternity of the deceased, gathered to recite the office of the Madonna and the deceased. The confraternity members were tasked with accompanying the deceased in procession during the funeral cortege and praised them. However, there are no statutes regulating the association. It was almost entirely destroyed by a furious wind that caused the upper part of the facade to collapse on November 20, 1763, during the episcopate of Mons. Tommaso Giannelli, and was subsequently renovated.
