The Trabocchi

Descrizione

The trabucco, also called trabocco, is a construction used for sight fishing with very ancient origins, typical of the Abruzzo, Molise, and Gargano coasts. The structure is made of Aleppo pine and consists of a platform, generally equipped with a roof, that projects completely over the sea. To reach this platform, a walkway of the necessary length is generally used to reach a water level height sufficient for fishing. At the end of the platform, arms extend a few meters above the water level, which support a net that will be lowered into the water. The area beneath the boundary walls of the Borgo has recently been redeveloped, and until 2015 one could admire two trabucchi and a third under construction. During a very violent storm, one trabucco (the larger one) was destroyed by the force of the sea together with the one under construction, sparing only the one currently present, called the "trabucco di Celestino".
