The Norman Torricelle built by King Tancred as a fortification of the city, were six in number and were distributed around the old Borgo. In 1805 the penultimate one fell due to the strong tremors of an earthquake that caused much damage throughout the Molise area. The last one still standing is placed in front of the entrance arch of the ancient borgo, is called Torre Carlo Cappella and is now used as the historical archive of Termoli. Between two of these turrets there was a drawbridge and a moat called “Ruscello Prentaglione” because it received storm surges both from the east winds from the beach of San Pietro and from the opposite side from the beach of Sant’Antonio.
